Backpacking for Beginners, Making a Backpacking Gear List

When planning any backpacking or hiking trip there are certain items that you really should include as part of your Backpacking Gear List. O.k. so there are a load of new gadgets on the market that are supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread, but you should not forget the traditional, tried and tested essential items. The things that you really should not go without.

A GOOD MAP. One that covers the area that you will be travelling over, and detailed enough to show all the minor tracks, trails, rivers and streams as well as the main roads.

A COMPASS. Using a map alone is not going to work very well without a decent compass. Knowing what direction you are travelling in is vital. Try to buy one that is accurate but rugged enough to stand up to some rough handling in the wilds.

FLASHLIGHT. Not only useful for seeing where you are going, but a must when you are trying to find something in the middle of the night in a pitch black tent. And very handy for signalling in the event of an emergency.

FIRST AID KIT. Possibly one of the most important items in your backpack. Accidents can happen at any time anywhere, from minor cuts and scratches to sprains and more serious injuries. You should always carry a first aid kit that is well stocked with a variety of supplies, plus any personal medication. And ALWAYS replace anything that has been used as soon as possible.

WATER. Always carry as much water as you possibly can, hiking is thirsty work. Also if you can include a water purification kit ( one that will filter and than sterilise the water,) this means that you are able to re-stock along the way.

EXTRA FOOD AND CLOTHES. Try to pack some spare clothing as well as some extra food. You never know what is going to happen on the trail, so always be prepared to expect the unexpected and carry enough for an extra day or two, in case of emergencies.

KNIFE. It doesn’t have to be a huge hunting knife, but a good pocket knife or multi-tool can be invaluable for many uses and should be included in your kit no matter how short your trip may be.

FIRE. You should carry a spare lighter or waterproof matches, and keep them in a waterproof container. (Imagine not being able to cook your food or have a brew up, just because you cannot light your stove).

These are just a few ideas of what to include in your Backpacking Gear List, you can of course add to them, but always think through what you are going to take. There is no need to pack your backpack full of items that you will never use, so try to stick to the essentials.

grow your business and life: Go with the flow and the heart

When people learn that I have an Italian cooking school travel agency, they’re excited, “How I can start?”

As you can see in these three tales from the tour of Italian cuisine, I followed my heart went with the flow, and it was not a happy series of “coincidences.” You can apply these ideas to life and grow your business.

A fairy tale: Piedmont Barolo Wine Country

In 1993, I traveled the Barolo wine country in northwestern Italy. A travel agent found a flyer in the local wine route. I love to hike so I called the group’s leader, Elio.

Fax information to my own future, Elio hiking weekend in June. Three weeks later she was just small details by fax. The tour price is very low, so I went.

As I wandered, I said Eliot was writing a book on Italian food in the school holidays. He said: “There is a schedule of cooking here.”

I looked at him: “There are four restaurants in four cooking classes Some of them read Wine Spectator magazine want to go ..!”

He said: “Find six people.” I’ve never found a cooking school tour, do not speak English and did not know that customers are.

Barolo wine made me feel like a trip to the heart of his subject from every angle rolling hills covered with vineyards, fields, forests, villages of the hill, some crowned with castles. So beautiful, so poetic!

I emigrated from Tuscany travel with English travel company paid attention to good food, so I knew what type of customer, but have never been implemented or selling travel.

My press releases by e-mail describing how he was cooking chocolate and hazelnut cake soaked in wine, Moscato sauce sabayon chef of the restaurant’s summer home of King Carlo Alberto. The Globe and Mail of Toronto published a press release, the contractor was attracted to the tour group first cooking school in 1995.

Elio, and now offer tours and wine cuisine in Piedmont, Tuscany and the Riviera.

Story Two: The landscape and Bologna, Italy Gourmet Paradise

In 1998, a lively man of Bologna, Marcello, phoned me. He heard my guide 110 days cooking school in Italy and said: “The next time you are in Bologna, come visit us in our travels of the cooking school.” Your contact information with him.

Six months later, Tony, the cook, a golf course in New York, phoned me. He wanted his team of 16 professional chefs cooking Bologna program. No one would contact the program also offers one of Bologna. He said: “We have a connection to Bologna.”

My e-mail, Marcello and his wife, Raffaella, we created a professional cooking school, the itinerary of the tour cooks. When Tony said the group liked the route, I went to Bologna to see the tour of the cooking school and visit the people and places along the route.

I phoned in Italy Marcello, I will book a room at the same hotel I stayed a while in Bologna.
“No, be careful,” he said.

He seemed like a nice and professional, so I trust them. Quoting the Bologna train station. There’s a man in jeans and a sweater with his bike. “My wife is coming in a few minutes by car. Come to our place for coffee.”

It was 3:00, so there was plenty of time to get a hotel room. As has already been in place for a few hours, I thought, “Where will I sleep?” I just want to have a little confidence. “

Finally he said: “You want to stay for dinner and spend the night?” We have a small apartment next door. “They were on the floor, warm years, cheerful man of experience in the travel business, and they loved it. I welcomed.

This is the first time I stayed at home, I helped this food. A real shock for them. No other customer has ever done. Since then, they treated me like family. I stayed at my friends at home in Bologna is often more than 10 years.

After running a tour of the cooking school of the 16 chefs in 1999, has proposed to improve the current tourists dining kitchen tour is as concerts by the chefs. “

I discovered the Italian gastronomic paradise, where he was surprised by the way they live, as the treasures in the Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar and ham. I found a list of local chefs, food producers and local people full of joy about their work and life. The heart of the region’s food lovers big!

Since then, Marcello, Raffaella and I sold the cooking school in Bologna and tour the countryside and increase the Umbria and Le Marche.

Story Three: Mount Etna, Sicily and the island of Stromboli

In 1995, I took day trips to Sicily, to Etna’s lava fields and the exotic island of Stromboli, a magical place for an active volcano in black and green mountains, white houses with black volcanic sand beaches.

Finally, in 2005, Stromboli is a fast boat from Naples and stayed there for three days. Then I realized the ship back finished the season.

Dating in Rome on the ferry three to six hours for the train. I mentally slapped poor planning. An inner voice told me: “Maybe there’s a reason.”

The ferry was sitting in the window with two empty seats beside me. Stromboli On the side I saw a rock formation shaped like a big heart. Stromboli is probably the way to my heart.

My practical standpoint scoffed, “rubbish! The only good conversation, there was a hotel manager!”

The next port of call I got up to stretch his legs. When I returned to my seat, I saw an ordinary looking Italian men in shorts, shirt and walking shoes sitting on a seat in the window seat.

A voice inside said: “It is no coincidence say something.”

“Stromboli is very nice, right?” I smiled. He was the guide taking groups on tours of the volcano. I said, our cooking school trip to Italy.

He offered me a trip to the port railway station on his way home in the Etna area. It was a nice man, so I accepted. Then I went to the seat next to me.

, Said the travel agency is family owned by walking tours of Mount Etna and Stromboli. Shouted: “I always dreamed of running a kitchen and walking tour of the volcanoes Etna and Stromboli Did I visits the family food.?” We exchanged cards. We shook hands at the station.

Home e-mail to him. Sicilian cuisine is a travel partner of the family for two years.

What did I learn? Follow your heart, go with the flow, and meet the right people, and some of the best things in life and business is done.

From 1995 to Margaret Cowan owns a travel agency, Mama Margaret Italian cuisine accommodation.

Camping and hiking gear can be purchased throughout the year because this type of outdoor equipment is made for all terrains and all weather conditions. Outdoor enthusiasts around the world enjoy camping in all seasons because the outdoor scenery in fall is breathtaking, and camping in bungalows in the forest in winter gives campers a chance to capture views of wildlife rarely seen in other seasons. To get to those glorious places though, the right equipment will have to be worn.

Hikers will rely on long underwear during the wintertime to ward off the winter chill. During summer, however, the hiker might rely on a good pair of jeans and a light shirt accompanied by a lightweight vest and a pair of sunglasses. All types of camping gear can be carried along in a backpack and wherever the hiker is when sunset approaches is where they will strike camp for the night. The hiker might adjust to the lower temperatures at night by donning a heavier gauge of socks.

Other types of camping and hiking gear will be needed in the springtime. A hiker might need to don gloves or mitten in the early morning hours and store them away after the sun comes up high on a ridge. The backpacks will hold the sleeping bag tight with tethered straps attached on the outside, and the one-person tent will roll up nicely inside. The hiker might take some camping and hiking gear for refreshments after a few hours on the trail, such as water bottles or a bottle to hold water that was filtered through a pump immersed in the creek bed.

Some campers will be prepared to stay in the woods for a week or more and they will bring camping and hiking gear that will allow them to cook warm meals at night. The camp cooking gear might be a butane stove or a small pot that cooks well on coals. The forest are a natural source of cooking fuel but campers will ensure that all fires are out before they lay down to rest for the night. Campers do not working about sleeping on the cold hard ground if they bring camping and hiking gear such as sleeping pads along with them on the nature trail.

Hikers know how to dress for all outdoor environments and still be fashionable even there is nobody else in sight. The camping and hiking gear brought along for a trip will always include sandals, running shoes, or snow boots to ensure all conditions are enjoyable. A hiker might even choose to take some climbing footwear if there will be rock formations along his route. All of these fashion footwear accessories for a hiker can also be adapted for use by a camper.

Some camping and hiking gear is carried along to ensure that hiker’s will find their way back to camp or to the spot in the woods where the truck is parked. Technological advances in satellite imagery have allowed camping and hiking gear choices to guide people along the various routes in the woods by equipping devices with global positioning software. Other camping and hiking gear will help hikers keep track of time and the number of miles traveled on foot. These camping and hike accessories will also tell hikers if bad weather is on the way.
